Anyone for apples

Good crop of apples from the main apple tree this year (this isnt all of them!). Neighbours reckon its the best they've ever seen. They've gone into storage for the winter, would be great if they keep. Considered cider making but it makes such a mess.

And from the inside

And here shown from the inside including the stone area on the left revealed when we ripped out a bit of dry lining.

The new door...

Hard as nails my dad said, another bargain ebay sale. Note the knackered windows to the left.

#BetterthanAyersRock

Another trip to Northern Ireland takes in the Giants Causeway. Brilliant piece of geography/geology. I could spend hours here if it wasnt for all the bloody tourists.

New Windows

New top floor front windows fitted - fantastic!! Its quiet with the windows open but its even quiter with the windows closed. Winter should be a breeze with these babies. Aesthetically they look great, cant really notice a difference between these and the other non plastic windows.

The Kitchen Makeover

Since sending emails from the Blackberry to the blog has stopped working, the blog has been somewhat neglected. The kitchen has been painted green as have most things in the house at the moment. Looks a million times better though eh?

More pics to follow....

Summer in the Valley

Been a nice day today. Lots of things growing, but as Morcambe & Wise once said, not necessarily in the right order (place to be more accurate).

Spaceflower has a mad hour destroying, ahem... relocating plants. I grow and supply the replacement plants to fill the holes she makes. Molly, as usual, does sod all apart from eat bits of wood.

Getting closer...

Gave the cellar a coat of paint yesterday. Its looking good. Windows nearly ordered. Just waiting for electrician to come back to finish off. Then need to bring carpet tiles back from the office and lay.

Tony the plumber still needs to plumb in the radiator. Should be ready in a month or so I reckon.

The perfect patio

Laid by our own fair hands. Its not perfect but it'll do for now. Just need to sow some grass seeds between the flags for that aged look.

Meanwhile downstairs...

Slowly slowly catchy monkey... Don't know what that means but the plastering is slowly getting there. He reckons he'll be done tomorrow but I won't hold my breath.

After...

Just need to get rid of the air lock so we can have some hot water and we're away. Hot radiators, just need a good shower.

The stove is in the house!

At a weighty 150kg it took 3 neighbours, us, a length of climbing rope, some 3 x 2 and a blanket but its now in the house ready for fitting next week. Phew... Grolsch time I think.

A birthday beer

... In the head of steam in huddersfield. Having a pint of titanic iceberg, aptly named bearing in mind spaceflower's great great grandfather died on the titanic. I wonder whether the passengers ever thought a beer would be named after the unfortunate predicament.

Day off

No builders today as its Sunday. Really taking shape down there. Floor is next on the agenda. I bought the builder a huge roll of tape to join the floor to the wall membrane, that should make it nice and water tight. Builder might be done Tuesday Wednesday, we'll then just need to get a plasterer in. Electrician lined up, window to order then it shouldn't be far off.

What a difference a day makes

Builders really cracked on today. We have drain in the floor, gravel in place and lots of plugs in the membrane. they've knocked off early as the drill bit has a flat end... That's always going to cause a problem!

Ah, that's better...

A nice clean stone vault. I won't show you the floor, it looks like its covered in snow drifts.

Project Chop Begins...

Here we go... Start of cellar conversion project, sandblasting the stone vault ceiling. Nasty mucky job, dread to think what the guys lungs are like.

Big thanks to huddersfield sandblasting company www.vapourblast.co.uk for fitting us in so quickly. Much more reliable than the scouse Collonel gadaffi who let us down!

The dog that loves smart cars...

Blue Ginger

She's getting funnier in her old age.

She now prefers to travel by Smart car, hates the lane rover for some reason? She even leans into the corners as spaceflower throws the car around the country lanes...

Here we go....

Probably the nearest pub to the new house. The bay horse at hade edge. Obviously got a problem with under age drinkers as signs everywhere saying no 14 year olds everywhere. They also don't allow dogs... Looks like its a Jennings pub, Cumberland ale and dark mild on the hand pulleds. Spaceflowers dad here preachers to the landlord about the temperature of the beer... I thought I was bad!

Whoops, its a bit slippy down there...

First day back at the office and not a good start.

Didn't look too bad but hill descent and traction control both say non...

Fortunately, thanks to big plastic wheel arches the damage wasn't too bad. Thank god we hit the walls otherwise it might have been much worse!

The most expensive pint in West Yorkshire?

While out doing a reccie on the new house and almost meeting the new neighbour, we thought we would try a few of the local pubs.

Calling in at the butchers arms in hepworth, we sneak in a pint of taylors golden best. Either that or a choice of the dreaded black sheep.

Lovely pub, gorgeous flagged floors and an open fire help ease the pain of paying £3 a pint!
